    Need help importing to SQL

    Hi All

Need some help and advice, I have built a database in access 2010 in windows seven, been able to split the front end using the access wizards and got the users using it like a dream (around 12 users).

I would now like to move the back end into SQL which as I understand will give me a more stable and up sizeable database.

My question is what SQL software do I need (Free ideally) as I am no expect and am running windows 7, and any help or advice would be great.

    Thanks

There is a free version of SQL Server:

I have down loaded the software and it seems very good, but I can't get it to connect to the server(which is my pc), from what I have seen looking up the error code it seems I need to set an admin account up any idea how I do this as looking over the software the rest seems not bad

I've never used the express version. In the full version, the user "sa" will be created when you install, and that is the admin account. Did it ask you about a password for sa?

Ya, but I let the thing us the windows trusted password on my network so I think the thing has not set up the sa account, so my thinking is to uninstall it and do it again

We may want to rope in somebody who has used the express version. In the full version, in SQL Server Management Studio (the main interface) you can set up users in the Security area. In the properties of the instance is the option for "Windows Authentication mode" or "SQL Server and Windows Authentication mode". It sounds like you've got the former, I have the latter.

In SQL Server Management Studio under Security there should be an entry for your windows login something like domainname/username. If you right click on that and open the properties You will see an icon for server roles click on that you will see the list of server roles and which ones that user is assigned to.
