    Oracle ODBC 11g Driver

I'm having difficulties with an ODBC connection to an Oracle 11g database. I'm running Windows XP with Office 2010. I've installed the Oracle ODBC drivers and successfully created a DSN to the Oracle database. We've been able to ping the database, connect via SQL Plus and even link tables from within an Access 2002-2003 database. When I attempt to link from an Access 2007 database I get the error -

    *****
    ODBC--call failed.

Specified driver could not be loaded due to system error 127 (Oracle in OraClient11g_home1). (#160)

    *****

I can't find anything to tell me what driver is not being loaded or what system error is occurring.

I would appreciate any help as I really don't want to downgrade these databases in order to make the connections work.

Have you discussed this with your Oracle DBA? I haven't used Acc2007.
It sounds like an Oracle parameter issue.

Yes, I have discussed it with my Oracle DBA and since the connection is being made they don't believe it is an Oracle issue, rather an Access 2007 issue.

I am also very rusty on this. Last time I used it was Access 97 I think. There is a file called tsnames.ora (?) on your C drive. This needs to contain something - the database name? Sorry!

Here's a link that I found that may be helpful

tnsnames.ora is what I recall being the issue more than once. I recall it being on individual machines, and then someone decided to put it on a mapped seerver drive that caused many issues.... but It's been more than 4 years...

I'm having the same issue (error message). I have Oracle 9i 32 bit and Oracle 10g 32 bit drivers installed (yes, they can be installed together) and when I try to relink the tables (this Access 2007 app was originally built in XP with 9i ODBC drivers to a 10g database and worked) to an Oracle 10g table (using either version DSN), I get the same error. When I test the DSN configuration in the ODBC Data Source Administrator, I get a 'Connection Successful' message on both versions, so it is something within Access and Windows 7 64bit.

Yours is looking for the Oracle in OraClient11g_home1 driver. Did you install the 64bit or 32bit version of the Oracle 11g driver (it shouldn't matter since you are on Access 2010 - 64bit, but possibly an issue)?

I'll keep watching and let you know if I find a solution.

I just followed this info and I can now relink tables using the 9i driver DSN, but not the 10g driver DSN. Right click on the created shortcut and 'run as administrator'.

I'll keep investigating for the 10g drivers.
