Access very slow, frequently crashes--but only on one person's computer. Top reasons?

    Hi all,

I'm an Access n00b, but I've been put in charge of Access at work. I'm trying to figure out why the database of one of my coworkers is slower than everyone else's and frequently crashes. Here are the details:

-We use a database that is 1,269,828 KB. We split it into a back end that we keep on our server. There is a front end that is 2,304 KB. We all copy and paste the same front end to our desktops and linked-tables it to the back end, which is kept on a server. All of us have the same connection to the server via LAN line to a NAS server. We have changed out cords for her, so we don't think it's her specific LAN line.
-No one seems to have problems with it being slow but one person. She uses Windows 7, but then again, so do others of us who do not have a problem.
-A variety of events seem to prompt the crash, which seems to be a garden variety crash, with the message "Your network access interrupted. To continue, close the database, and then open it again."
Here are some descriptions of problem she has faced:
    1. She tries to attach documents (fairly small excel docs that usually attach just fine), but gets an error that she can't attach documents. Otherwise the front end works fine and lets her enter stuff.
    2. Sometimes, usually when another program called MAPS (http://www.mapspricing.com/policy-model.aspx) is open, she gets an error message when she attaches to the database. That happens to another coworker sometimes as well. In this case, it appears that MAPS is the culprit.
    3. Sometimes the db merely doesn't let her attach things. It gives her no error message, but just doesn't let her attach.
    4. An additional note--we are frequently using Crystal Ball while using the database. This doesn't seem to give anyone a problem but her, but it could be a culprit. Is there a history of compatibility issues between Crystal Ball and Access?

    Things I'm going to try:
-I'm going to try putting the same database back end on her computer, and seeing if it runs faster when it's all on her machine vs. her connecting to it on the server.

    Questions I have:
    1. Does anyone have any other suggestions for trials I should run?
    2. Any more info that y'all need to know?
    3. Or does this sound like a specific problem already, with the info I've given?

    Best regards,
    Robert

The specs of her computer might be important. RAM, HD, CPU

    Hi -

This might be one of those times when trying to find out what the problem is, is not worth the effort. Sometimes you get a machine that is just plain "flakey", and if you have the resources it might be easier to just replace it. If that is not practical, try removing and re-installing MS Access. You might also take a look at what processes are running along with MS Access when it slows down - perhaps one of them is taking up a lot of CPU time (virus/malware scans are good candidates).

    Just some ideas...

    John
