Help! Access Keeps Stripping Leading Zero

I have a table with barcode numbers that are stored in text fomat because of the leading zero. I am using coldfusion to update another table with barcode numbers with text field. The problem is that I know coldfusion output has the leading zero and when I goto insert it into next table, it losses the leading zero. I thought the text field would keep leading zeros? The length of numbers needs to be always 12. I have played with several format options such as Format(barcode, "000000000000") but it right justifies my barcodes and doesnt add a zero. Why is my leading zero being dropped in a text field? - Thanks.
