    Windows 7 X64 ODBC Driver and Access 2010

    I have build several Access 200X databases for several clients with a SQL Server 200X backend. With clients that have Windows 7 X 64 I can connect to the ODBC connection using the Administrative tools, but when I go into Access 2010 I can not open the database. It works fine with Access 2007 but 2010 is failing.

    Has anyone run into this and is there a solution?

    Yes, and the solution to the whole 32 bit / 64 bit ODBC is never pretty. On my machine I actually have both the 64 bit version of 2010 and the 32 bit version of 2007. Each time I start one or the other, it has to load up the environment - but it is the only way that I have been able to get access to any database that relies on the 32 bit ODBC driver. If you have the 32 bit version of 2010, they tell me it will work fine, but if you are the 64 bit version and want to connect to a 32 bit ODBC driver, you are hosed. If you can find a 64 bit version of the ODBC driver you are using, then it should work...

    Like I said, it's never pretty. I actually had a Microsoft guy tell me "yeah, that's a non-starter."

    I found a solution to the Windows 7 X64 Access 2010 SQL connection issue. What you need to do is go into;

    C:\Windows\SysWOW64 directory and find the odbcad32.exe and build your ODBC connections form this file instead of the 32 bit system32 odbcad file. It works without loading Access 2007 and 2010.

    Here is another link that may help.

    That will work if your Access 2010 version is the 32 bit version of Access in a 64 bit Windows environment, but are you saying you are able to connect the 64 bit version of Access to the 32 bit ODBC driver in a 64 bit Windows environment using this method?
