    Normalization

I am building a database to monitor the accounts of my organization. The votes are referred by numbers and names, for example, 111 Traveling. However two departments can have a traveling vote.

My thinking is I should separate the number of the vote from the name of the vote.

I would appreciate opinion on my thinking.

I think if you want responses that are somewhat specific, that you are going to have to tell us more of your set up. How many people, not associated with your organization, will understand what a vote is? How a Vote is linked to an Account?
I think you should look at this site and read the Normalization topics, entity relationship diagramming and the Hernandez process. If you can use those items to help describe your problem/concerns, then you are increasing your chances of getting meaningful responses.
