Opening Access 2000 file in Access 2010

    Hi,

I have problem with opening my (10 years) old MDB file in Access 2010. I can open it in MS Access 2003 without any problem, but in Access 2010 I have to enter user name and password before opening. But I haven't ever set it, so I don't know it.

Any idea how to solve it?

    Thx,

    Jacob

P.S. Sorry for my bad english.

    Try
    Login: admin or ADMIN
Password: just blank without password and enter

    Hi Thhui,

I already tried it, but I have Czech version of Office and every variant of "admin" is always (after "Bad username / password" message) changed to "Administrátor" (admin in Czech language).

I tried also my current Windows user account name & password.

If you have many versions of access and have different language access, there may be registry problems of opening access.

    The general priniciple is:-
Just leave the old version to old program.

If you want to open it in new version,
try to install a fresh new version of access in a virtualbox new windows with same language setting of the old access db file
    and this should be alright.

    Hi again Thhui,

I have Office 2003 in Virtual PC (Win XP) and Office 2010 on my PC. Both are in Czech language. All I need is to open (and then convert to new format) an old database (it's database of books in our family library) with Office 2010 without running Virtual PC just for this.

I can open in Office 2010 another old DB (aprox. same age) without any problems.

Could you post a copy of the old mdb - in Czech language?? (you can just leave a copy of some tables for me to test) so that I can check whether I could open it in my Traditional Chinese Environment?

    OK!
I find a few interesting things in the mdb file

    I summarized them as follows:-
I could open it somehow - by right click and check out the protection. (This is a new Security Update by Microsoft that I overlook before).
Simply not allow me to open - saying it is excluded from safe domain and must obtain my approval of protection before I could open it.

    It is Access 2002(XP) file.
Many unknown characters appeared in my traditonal Chinese Environment.

Some forms could not be opened due to incorrect recognition of characters in different Language Environment of the VBA you set in the form.

It seems that it could be opened properly in Czech Language Environment.

If the problems could not be solved.
You could alternatively make a connection to this old mdb file by linking the table created by your new Access 2010 file.
This should be alright! (This indeed is a last resort in data corruption issues)

Damn... I've tried to create new empty DB in Access 2010 and suprise - after click on "Create" Access show Log In dialog and of course doesn't accept any username / password combination nor "Admin" without password.
So it looks like there is no problem with my old DB file, but with Access 2010. Strange thing is, that I have reinstalled (uninstall & fresh install) Office 2010 two days ago...
Any idea what could be wrong?

You probably create a database with a workgroup feature enabled.
Try to find a fresh new system.mdw to replace yours.

Month ago I created DB for my program in .NET C# and set password for it. I had no idea that Access will it save and require everytime.
So problem was between keyboard and chair... :-)

Thank you for your help, thhui.
