List box doesn't allow Unique data entries

I notice when I enter data into a text field list box, I can choose from the list or add a unique entry ("Allow List item Edits" is set to "yes") However, I am unable to add a unique entry into a form because the form version of the list box allows only a selection of an item on the menu.

Is there any workaround to allow unique entries to be entered into a list box on a form?

double check: the listbox permits entry
that the form property permits edits
that the underlying record source for the listbox is updateable.

    hope this helps.
