    odbc to another access db

this is access 2003 on an xp pro, attempting to odbc link to another access 2003 on a win7 pro, from external link I'm selecting odbc with the access driver

everything seems ok until I finalize the connection, and get this error

wtf? this is access to access? isn't that the most basic, easiest connection?
any ideas out there? do I have to register or something similar the odbc capability on the win7 machine where my target db is located?

    ok here is the text

"you cannot use ODBC to import from, export to, or link an external microsoft jet or isam database table to your data base"

it did create a .dsn source in the 'file data source' tab in the select data source dialogue, if I try to select that data source is when the error is invoked

ok first thing, to link to another access db, you don't need odbc, just link! access knows what to do.
looks like odbc is for other sql 'based' db's, I'm attempting to link to a sql server 2005 db over my lan, should be interesting, because the there is much more to sql server tables than access tables

In order to use ODBC, you must first register it properly under Control Panel>System Management Tools>ODBC Source>System.

In addition, it is not allowed under msaccess to link another access file through ODBC.
Just use link to another mdb file is OK.
