Hi Everyone,

We have run into a problem for a client's database. The original person who developed the database left a few years back. Unfortunately, it appears that he was the only person who could alter the forms, reports and underlying data. The current end-users can only insert, update and delete data but apparently cannot create or alter forms or reports.

Is there a way for maybe a Network Admin to override the current privileges? I have worked mainly with UNIX and Oracle and I know of ways to take over ownership but is there a similar thing we could do with Access?

Or perhaps could we create a copy of the database without the restrictions?

What version of Access is in use? Is the database "secured" with User Level Security (ULS) or by some other means? Do you have the original file (MDB or ACCDB) or is the user using an MDE?

I have since lost the Original Access database before compiling MDE and now not able to make changes to the database forms, reports, modules, etc. I have Access 2000, the tables and the MDE file

There are services that can create an MDB from an MDE. Google should be able to find them.

If all you have is just the mde, chances are any service you use to try and recover any code will not be able to recover all the code (but you may get things recovered such as the code in modules.) I've never seen any service which can fully recover all the coding from an mde.

If it's protected via an mdw file (ie. MSAccess security), you can use this to find a login/password with admin privelages.
