Problems with autonumber field in a form

An autonumber field is not working in a form that it's Record Source is a query when I am in "new record mode". The data entered in a new record is inserted into a table with a query. The autonumber field is not incrementing as increments in another form where the Record Source is a table. How can make it work? :cry:
